5-Hour Bluegrass Jam Camp

Learn to jam with others in 5 hours, guaranteed!  If you know a few chords and/or a few songs already, but are still not sure about joining a bluegrass jam, this workshop is for you!


Instructor, Cindy Gray, has taught this workshop at the Steve Kaufman Acoustic Camp in Maryville, Tennessee for many years.  With over 40 years of jamming and performing experience, as well as 30 years as a teacher, she can help you move forward on your Bluegrass journey!     

  • Pre-registration required.  Max enrollment – 10

  • For bluegrass instruments: Guitar, Fiddle, Mandolin, Bass, Banjo, Dobro. 

  • Students bring their own instruments.

  • Pre-requisite ~ Students should have a basic knowledge of playing their instrument, and should have spent some time learning some basic techniques like strumming, plucking, bowing, finger picking, etc, and be able to strum or play a few songs and/or chords. 


What will be provided:

  • Folding chairs

  • Limited number of music stands (you might have to share, or you can bring your own)

  • Light lunch (sandwiches and chips)

  • Bottled water

  • Packet of materials specific to your instrument that includes chord charts, some tablature, a Jam Song Book

Guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, dobro and upright bass! 

Song Book and written packets included.

What to expect:

  • Everyone will play their instruments a lot

  • Everyone will make a lot of mistakes and learn a lot from them

  • Everyone will mostly learn by ear and imitation*

  • Everyone will play some solos

  • Everyone will play back-up to others

  • Everyone will learn to listen better

  • Everyone will learn the “do’s and don’ts” of bluegrass jamming

*you will also be provided with written materials to take home to help you remember what you learned


  • $50 - includes lunch and printed materials 

  $5 Discount for anyone in a Bluegrass Association!


Here's something some of you may not know: once you've attended your first 5-Hour Jam Camp, you can come back for as many more as you like, at no charge.  If you're an "alumnus", you don't need to attend the morning session and you won't get the lunch, but if you show up at 12:30 or so, you can spend a couple hours jamming and practicing your jamming skills with us.
